Covenant University Bans ‘All Black’ Dressing Among Students, To Sanction Defaulters

The university further banned its students from wearing a brand of shoe known as Brogues shoes.






Students at the Covenant University have been banned from wearing a kind of dressing.

The authorities of the Covenant University (CU), Ota, Ogun State, announced a ban on “all black” dressing by students of the institution.

The faith-based private institution owned by the Living Faith Church Worldwide, warned students to strictly adhere to the new order which forbids them (students) from appearing in full black dress on campus from the next session.

Announcing the new order on its website on Saturday, the university explained that students could combine, for instance, black cloth with any other colour, but reemphasised that any student who violates “all black” prohibition would be duly sanctioned.

The university further banned its students from wearing a brand of shoe known as Brogues shoes.

“All students should note that from next session, wearing black shirt/top on black trousers/skirt is prohibited. Black material can only be worn with other colours. Also note that shoes called “Brogues” are highly prohibited, hence all students must desist from wearing them. Erring students will be sanctioned appropriately,” the statement said.

The victory came for Adeleke nearly four years after failing by a small margin in his bid to govern Osun State.






Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior, has spoken about the just concluded Osun governorship election.

The former Osun State governor, who boycotted the election, had remained silent on development in Osun State after his outburst against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress and his political boss, Bola Tinubu, in February 2022.

The PUNCH had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday morning declared Ademola Adeleke the Governor-Elect of Osun State after scoring a majority of votes cast in the governorship election in the state.

The victory came for Adeleke nearly four years after failing by a small margin in his bid to govern Osun State.

On Saturday, Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat his closest rival, the incumbent governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, who polled 375,027 votes.

Aregbesola reacted in a post titled, ‘Osun Le Tente’ on Sunday morning.

He posted a bible verse, Daniel 4:17, which exalts God’s power to place control in the hands of whoever He wishes.

“This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.” – (Daniel 4:17),” the minister posted.

In the outburst ahead of the party’s governorship primary election in the state, Aregbesola said that enough is enough for the politics of godfatherism and enthronement by treacherous leaders who equated themselves to the status of a god.

The minister had said he trusted Tinubu, but the ex-governor of Lagos State repaid him with betrayal.

Aregbesola, who was the Governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018, accused Tinubu and ex-governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, of forcing the current governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, on the people, against popular will.

Instead, the minister then asked the party members in Osun to support a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, who was later defeated in the primary election.

Though Aregbesola made moves to reconcile with his political boss Tinubu, the efforts yielded no result.

A few hours to the governorship election, a faction of the APC led by the minister, The Osun Progressives, released a statement noting that despite the fued, its members would remain in APC.

This was after a stalwart of the APC and one of the closest loyalists to Aregbesola and a TOP mobiliser, Kolapo Alimi, defected to the PDP

Linda Adedeji, the Nollywood actress who is very popular in the Yoruba-speaking sector was married for 10 years with a son before the union crashed.

The marriage crumbled in 2020 as a result of what may be described as ‘infidelity’ and more.


In this interview with Potpourri, she shares her experiences and all the unpleasantness that made her walk away.

Why and when did you divorce your husband?

I divorced him in May, 2020. The reason was because of infidelity on his own part. I just couldn’t stand the regularity and effrontery associated with it.

Do you truly believe divorce was the only solution instead of working it out?

Yes, I don’t believe divorce was the only solution. In my own case we tried and tried to work it out but it didn’t just work .So, I realised that the only solution to my own case was actually divorce.

Won’t this breakup affect the kids negatively?

No, the break up can’t affect my son. I don’t think so because right now we are co-parenting and we are good at it.

Why did you marry your ex husband in the first place?

I married my ex husband for love and not money as many would love to think. When I met him he was struggling and I was struggling too. In fact when I met him he was still living with his parents while I had my own apartment. Not that he wasn’t okay but was still building his own house and had no money to buy a house then.

Later, we rented an apartment together and furnished it together. One of the problems we encountered was his parents. They didn’t accept me because I’m an actress and they have their own perception about actresses. My own people were cold to him too, because they felt as a big girl and a star I should have married someone more affluent than me.

Against all odds we married at a court without the presence of my parents and his. Just two of my friends were in attendance. There was so much love between us. After the first and second year, his parents felt vindicated because they never wanted me.

We were married and so that was it and we kept moving on even though the baby wasn’t coming, we tried all we could, visiting places, hospitals and all, nothing happened. But I’ve already made up my mind, no matter what anybody says “I will not leave this man, I will give birth for this man, every eyes would see it, every ear would hear it that yes I have given birth for this man and I would remain his wife forever”.

What really changed about him and for how long had you been living with him?

Changes don’t happen overnight. I travelled a lot and he travelled a lot too. Sometimes, for a month we would not see each other. I think when the distance started coming up between us was when the problem began.

I would receive calls from different people that they saw my husband at so and so hotel with so and so person. I was not interested because to some extent I didn’t believe it. I tried all I could to ignore all the talk, all the backlash, I tried all I could to ignore it because I wasn’t really interested because my focus at that moment was how to make my home perfect.

It actually got to an extent when a relative of mine told me that my husband actually brought a lady, his girlfriend, to a function that one of my family members held. I could not believe it because my husband knew my family members would be at the party. The audacity was too much for me to take. When the person who saw them said she would snap them and send to me I declined because I was more focused on making my pregnancy stay after many miscarriages.

I finally had my son, in the UK because I was in the UK then and he was only coming in to see us although we weren’t seeing much of each other. When we returned together to Nigeria in 2020 was when I got the biggest shock of my life. I was just cleaning the house, cleaning my bedroom which happened to be our bedroom (the master bedroom) when I started bringing out different condom packs.

Why Kanayo O. Kanayo, Yul Edochie, And Kate Henshaw Are Not Contesting In 2023 Elections

It is clear that Nigerian celebrities are beginning to pull their weights in the political space at the moment to the delight of their fans.

From Funke Akindele emerging as a deputy governorship candidate in Lagos State, to Tonto Dikeh also emerging as a deputy governorship candidate in Rivers State, celebrities in Nigeria are clearly making political statements.

However, the trio of Kanayo O. Kanayo, Yul Edochie and Kate Henshaw who participated in previous elections have all opted out for one reason or another.

Kanayo O. Kanayo who contested in the National Assembly elections in 2019 to represent Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency of Imo State has failed to show up for 2023. Based on his earlier venture in politics, many people were expecting him to contest again in 2023 but the reverse is the case.

Kanayo finally revealed he was not contesting. He gave his reasons as thus: “I will not contest for any political office in 2023. This sacrifice is to enable me to work for a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.”

Yul Edochie had contested for the governorship seat on the platform of the Democratic Peoples Congress, DPC in Anambra 2017 and lost and even served as a special adviser to Willie Obiano until 2019 when he left APGA to join the PDP in a bid to support the Atiku Abubakar presidential bid.

Early in the year, rumours had it that he was going for the biggest of all in 2023, by seeking to become the president of Nigeria. His fans were however shocked to later read in the news that Yul decided to pull out of the presidential race. He claimed he was pulling out of the elections because the party he intended to use to achieve his dream, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has no capacity at the moment to win a presidential seat.

“I wanted to run for President with APGA. After much consultations and meetings, we sat and did our evaluations. We put sentiments aside and embraced facts. Our party is good but does not have the capacity at the moment to win a Presidential seat. So I didn’t move further”, he tweeted, thereby ending his ambition to be president.

Kate Henshaw contested a seat to represent the Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency of Cross River State at the National Assembly in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party. So when other celebrities started declaring their intentions to seek electoral posts, many people expected her to declare her intentions. Unfortunately, she didn’t.

Sharing her experience in 2015, she said: “I didn’t have a budget, I just knew I needed money to run the campaign office, pay people to work with me. I didn’t really have a budget at hand. I wish I had, maybe I won’t have even started. Because I found out that most of the consultations I went to, the men would ask me “do you have enough in your war chest?” I was like “what is a war chest?” That is when I found out that it’s “how much money do you have to throw around.”

Following the emergence of Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the Osun governorship election, fans of Nigerian singer, Davido, have attacked his colleague, Portable.

Davido's fans are not taking it likely with controversial hip-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable who declared his support for the incumbent governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola.

Portable had a few days ago before the election, joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, to campaign for Oyetola in Osun state and on all social media platforms, stating that he was paid by the ruling party to do so.

Doing the APC bidding, Portable released a video on Instagram where he was with Oyetola declaring support for him.

In another picture of him and his supporters, he wrote: “Akoi APC, Akoi Oyetola Lekan si. 4+4=8. O ti lo.”

While it appeared like moral support for Davido to pitch for Adeleke in his political ventures, Portable sees his own adventure as a way of making money and doubling his hustle as the slang always goes.

However, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the Osun governorship held on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

Adeleke polled PDP 403,371 to defeat Oyetola and the APC with 375,027 votes, while Lasun Yusuf of Labour Party, LP polled 2,729.

ASUU Strike: NLC Declares Nationwide Protest For Next Tuesday, Wednesday

Following the continued closure of the public universities in Nigeria, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has revolved to protest on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.



This came as it faulted the Federal Government purported rejection of the Nimi-Briggs Committee on the premise of alleged disparity between the pay rise allocated to academic and non-academic staff of universities.

NLC in a circular to its state councils and affiliates dated July 15, 2022 and signed by its President and General Secretary, Ayuba Wabba and Emma Ugboaja, respectively, said the protest is to take place in all the state capitals and Abuja, starting from NLC’s secretariats.

Among others, the protest is aimed at pressurizing the Federal Government to conclude negotiations with striking universities unions and ensure that public universities resume for normal activities.
